Salishan Gardens - Tacoma, Washington
As part of the architectural design team, Sitts & Hill Engineers, Inc. provided civil engineering design services for the site and utility design to serve a new 60-unit senior housing complex in Tacoma, Washington. The construction work was completed in 2011.
In addition to designing the sanitary sewer service, we provided the utility design layout for the other services including water, storm sewer, fire protection and gas supply. We assisted the architect with grading concepts to optimize site use and conform to Tacoma's building height/view ordinance.
The client wished to maximize the number of units available on the site as well as provide low-maintenance green areas. Sitts & Hill provided the design for the parking lot and vehicle access as well as handicap walkways and an offsite drop-off for residents wishing to use public transportation. We also provided the calculations necessary for the structural design of the exterior retaining wall which supported the building foundation, areas of the parking lot, and many of the utilities. Finally, Sitts & Hill provided the civil permitting, construction support, a punch list and closeout services.
