Meeker Southern - Puyallup, Washington
Sitts & Hill Engineers, Inc. was hired by Meeker Southern Railroad to design and assist in the permitting of a highway/rail at-grade crossing maintenance project for their mainline in Puyallup, Washington. Maintenance of the crossing included removal of the deteriorated timber tie crossing surface and adjoining asphalt pavement and replacement with asphalt surface. The project also included addition of a railroad service spur and highway/rail at-grade crossing for one of Meeker Southern’s intermodal freight transport customers. Sitts & Hill worked closely with Meeker Southern, their attorney, and officials from Pierce County and Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission to navigate the permitting process. The project resulted in an improved at-grade crossing for both the railroad and the public roadway which it crossed.
