Manke Conveyor Railroad Crossing - Shelton, Washington
Sitts & Hill Engineers, Inc. was hired as the structural engineer for the new 300 foot overland conveyor, which transports gravel from the gravel pit approximately one mile away to the barge loading facilities. The scope of work was to provide design, structural detail drawings, and structural calculations as necessary to obtain a building permit from the City of Shelton. Portions of the conveyor were enclosed to prevent excess dust and gravel over the railroad crossing and state route 3 in order to meet all the necessary air pollution requirements. Coordination with the owner and the railroad staff was critical to our success, which project field work required extreme care and sensitivity to the needs of railroad staff occupying the affected spaces to minimize disruption to their activities.
