Cardinal

Sitts & Hill Engineers, Inc. has been providing civil and structural engineering for various Cardinal glass facilities across the United States for the past 15 years. As the prime engineer, we have successfully designed several complete manufacturing plants, as well as many expansions to existing plants. Below is a brief synopsis of a few great projects.

Cardinal Laminated Glass Plant - Ocala, Florida

This was a 263,000 square foot manufacturing plant with 97,000 square feet of planned Cardinal Ocala - 12466 - 3expansion. Sitts & Hill Engineers, Inc. was the prime engineering consultant and provided structural and civil engineering services, building and landscaping design, and construction management. The structure was a pre-engineered metal building on a 30 foot by 60 foot grid with 24 foot eave heights. The building was configured with truck bays on both ends, a main office area and an employee lunchroom. Layout for a significant amount of equipment and machinery was incorporated into the design, including clean rooms for the laminating process. On behalf of the owner Sitts & Hill Engineers hired and directed the electrical, HVAC, mechanical and geotechnical engineers, the surveyor and testing labs. The project required interfacing with contractor, owner and other disciplines to fast track the permitting and construction of the building and site with bimonthly site visits. The overall construction cost was $26.7 million including equipment and machinery and the building cost of $12.9 million including office improvements. This resulted in building costs of $49.05 per square foot to meet the owner’s budgetary concerns. Construction started in December 2005 and a CO was obtained in September 2006 for a nine month schedule.

Cardinal Glass Company Coated Glass Manufacturing Plant - Waxahachie, Texas

Cardinal Waxahachie - 10522 - 3Sitts & Hill Engineers, Inc. was the Prime Consultant to provide Civil and Structural design for 201,900 square foot of glass manufacturing facility. Project scope included permitting, site design, utility design, parking, a handicapped access, and structural analysis for office and manufacturing buildings, equipment support, crane loads and truck loading facilities. Other project elements included cooling towers, transformers, and extensive trenching system for both cooling water and electrical equipment control lines. Design of offices and training facilities were included in the scope of services. Coordination with the Owner and process design personnel at remote locations required special emphasis to meet the project’s aggressive schedule. We also provided full time onsite construction support services.

Cardinal Glass Company - Tumwater, Washington

Cardinal Tumwater - 11222 - 3Sitts & Hill Engineers, Inc. was the Prime Consultant to provide Civil and Structural design for the 152,611 square foot of glass manufacturing facility located on a 22.5-acre site. Project scope included permitting, site design, utility design, parking, a handicapped access, and structural analysis for office and manufacturing buildings, equipment support, crane loads and truck loading facilities. Other project elements included cooling towers, transformers, and extensive trenching system for both cooling water and electrical equipment control lines. Design of offices and training facilities were included in the scope of services. Coordination with the Owner and process design personnel at remote locations required special emphasis to meet the project’s aggressive schedule. We also provided full time onsite construction support services.

Cardinal Glass - Galt, California

Cardinal Galt - 12080 - 3Sitts & Hill Engineers, Inc. was the Prime Consultant, in a Design-Bid-Build delivery, to prepare a total design for a 230,000 sq. ft. glass manufacturing plant located on a 20+-acre site. Project scope included permitting, site design, utility design, parking, and handicapped access, structural analysis for office and manufacturing buildings, equipment support, crane loads, and truck loading facilities, Other project elements included cooling towers, substation, transformers, extensive trenching system for both cooling water and electrical equipment control lines. Coordination with the owner and process design personnel at remote locations required special emphasis to meet the projects aggressive schedule. Construction management services were included in the work scope.

Cardinal TG Plant - Chehalis, Washington

Cardinal Chehalis - 12467 - 3Sitts & Hill Engineers, Inc. was the Prime Consultant, in a Design-Bid-Build delivery, to prepare a project package ready for permitting and construction. We provided the Structural and Civil design for the new manufacturing and warehouse facility containing integrated office functions. The Project scope included permitting, site design, utility design, parking, handicapped access and structural analysis for the office and manufacturing buildings, equipment support, crane loads and truck loading facilities. Other project elements included cooling towers, transformers and extensive trenching system for both cooling water and electrical equipment control lines. Design of offices and training facilities were included in the scope of services. We also provided full time onsite construction management services. We have provided ongoing alterations and renovations for the owner since initial construction completion in 2008 to present.

Cardinal TG Plant - Loveland, Colorado Cardinal Loveland - 14794 - 3

Sitts & Hill Engineers, Inc. was the Prime Consultant, in a Design-Bid-Build-Construction Admin project delivery. We provided a full scope of professional design services for the relocation of the tempered glass manufacturing facility from Salt Lake City to Loveland (LL) Colorado. The new manufacturing and warehouse facility also contained integrated office functions.

Cardinal IG Expansion - Hood River, Oregon

Cardinal Hood River - 11536 - 5Sitts & Hill Engineers, Inc. was the prime engineering consultant and provided structural and civil engineering services, building and landscaping design, and construction management for the Cardinal IG, Hood River, OR, Insulated Glass plant. Designs included structures, equipment supports, foundations, etc., for the construction of the 135,000 sq. ft. plant expansion. The building foundation consisted of spread footings on structural fill. The main building floor consisted of a concrete slab on grade.

Cardinal TG - Moreno Valley, California

Cardinal Moreno Valley - 11590 - 2Sitts & Hill Engineers, Inc. was the prime engineering consultant and provided structural and civil engineering services, building and landscaping design, and construction management for the Cardinal TG, Moreno Valley Tempering Glass Plant. Designs included structures, equipment supports, foundations, etc., for the construction of the 162,000 sq. ft. plant expansion on the 20.44 acre site. The addition brought the total plant size to 234,884 sq. ft.

Cardinal IG Plant Expansion - Fremont, Indiana

Sitts & Hill Engineers, Inc. was the Prime Consultant to provide civil and structural designs for the additions to Cardinal’s existing plant. The additions were 81,000 square foot warehouse/manufacturing space, 24,455 square foot equipment mezzanine, 18,000 square foot covered rack storage, 6,722 square feet of lunchroom space and 730 square feet of added office space. Other minor improvements and renovations within the plant and office areas were included. Site improvements included additional paving for truck and passenger car parking and maneuvering, concrete ramps and walks, storm drainage facilities, and utility extensions. We submitted the necessary permits and provided construction administration.
